“a concept work about the most abysmal human emotions released in confrontation with the death of a close person”. – official description
Among the few BM albums with something to say in 2007, “IIII” stands out as a conceptual opus, as well. Known to the metal scene through their two demos and the cover of “I break” on the Katatonia tribute album, Farsot has released the long-awaited debut album “IIII” at Lupus Lounge.
Farsot are inclined towards playing depressive black metal; their sound is aggressive and harsh, yet the production is flawless (Germans seem to be faithful to Zeiss). Whilst other bands choose to disguise their songs by applying the fuzzy production method, Farsot simply delivers a crystal-clear, pure album in which all instruments are distinguishable.
Among the typical shrieks, blast beats, double-bass drumming, Farsot insert skillfuly-thought guitar work and hypnotic riffs (“Thematik: Tod”). It is this unbelievably inspired and appealing mixture of apparently unfriendly sounds that strengthen this album and bring it close to perfection.

Ambient or influenced by classical music (“Tod-Trauer” features a brief interpretation of a passage from Allegri’s “Miserere”), the interludes on “IIII” break its aggressive rhythms.
The track which stands out most is “Thematik: Trauer”, in my opinion; in 20 minutes they bring out the heaviest stuff in their box-of-secrets (the slow transition to the second part of the track is absolutely brilliant, and this is just one example). From melancholy-laden keyboard parts to Shining-like screams of anguish and heavy, heavy, heavy, utterly crushing guitar work, it’s all there. Give it a listen; it is a must.
